Redundancy analysis (RDA) is a sorting method combining regression analysis with principal component analysis, and it is also an extension of multiresponse variable regression analysis. Conceptually, RDA is the principal component analysis of the fitted value matrix of the multiple linear regression between the response variable matrix and the explanatory variable, and it is the constrained principal component analysis.
The purpose of RDA is to find new variables to replace the original ones. The coordinates of the quadrats in the sorting diagram are linear combinations of environmental factors. The advantage of this method is that it considers the impact of environmental factors on the quadrats, because sometimes we want to get the distribution of species under certain specific conditions, and we can get the result that certain species are affected by specific environmental factors, such as certain bacteria affected by pH value or temperature, etc.
